The Secret Base

The Secret Base is a mysterious area in the Lylat System.

In the game[]

Star Fox 2[]

The Secret Base is only accessible to the player if they have collected every Pepper Coin on the current difficulty level that is being played. The Secret Base's surface features a small neighborhood town, static copies of many planetary enemies which may be destroyed for health, and every power-up in the game. It features brown terrain and striking dark violet clouds.

In addition, the Secret Base is the exclusive location of the only Homing power-up in the entire game. There is no objective to be completed in this area. To leave, one must pause the game and select "Return to Map".

The Secret Base may be revisited as many times as desired. Destroyed enemies and collected power-ups will respawn on each visit. The only exception to this is the Homing power-up, which can only be collected once per squad member (by swapping squad members with the Select button on the Map, your secondary squad member may collect the Homing upgrade as well).

Star Fox Collection[]

The Secret Base makes its 3D appearance in Star Fox Collection. It is the secret stage in Star Fox Zero. It is reached only via the Black Hole if the player have collected every Medal on every stage. The theme for this stage is a remix of SNES Star Fox's Training Mode theme.

The Secret Base's surface features a small neighborhood towns, static copies of many planetary enemies which may be destroyed for supply rings in the game. It features brown terrain and striking dark violet clouds. It features a base owned by Beltino Toad that resembles to one at the start of the Corneria stage.

In addition, the Secret Base is the exclusive location of the Stage Builder in the entire game. The stage features a number of rings that award the player point bonuses upon being flown through. Some of these rings are being "rolled" around by destroyable enemies. At the end of the stage, the player fights a boss R.O.B. whose weak point is the flashing block(s) around it while also dodging the shots from its second-version Zapper. The new power-ups are Repair Items, Shield Barriers and Homing multi-lock-on. Like Star Fox 2, there is no objective to be completed and no boss to fight in this area. To leave, one head toward Great Fox's rear docking bay, just above the main engine and select "Warp via Great Fox" and head for Venom.

The Secret Base also appeared in Star Fox Adventures. It is where the Arcade located.

Like in Star Fox 2, the Secret Base is only accessible to the player if they have collected every Pepper Coin on every stage.

Notes[]

  • The Secret Base's environment appears to be very similar to Venom's, albiet at night. The neighborhood area was present in the unreleased beta build of the game, though in Venom's daytime environment. It was not normally accessible without the use of debug tools.
  • Based on General Pepper's briefing remark, it's only one of several secret bases in-universe.
  • Like Sauria, the Secret Base requires one Gold Ring to open the GateKeeper's ForceField.
